Python: Get the name of the operating system, information of current operating system, current working directory, print files and directories
1. OS Info and Directory Listing
Write a Python program to get the name of the operating system (Platform independent), information of the current operating system, current working directory, print files and directories in the current directory, and raise errors if the path or file name is invalid.
Sample Solution:
Python Code :
import os
print("Operating System:",os.name)
print("\nInformation of current operating system: ",os.uname())
print("\nCurrent Working Directory: ",os.getcwd())
print("\nList of files and directories in the current directory:")
print(os.listdir('.'))
print("\nTest if a specified file exis or not:")
try:
filename = 'abc.txt'
f = open(filename, 'r')
text = f.read()
f.close()
except IOError:
print('Not accessed or problem in reading: ' + filename)
Sample Output:
Operating System: posix Information of current operating system: posix.uname_result(sysname='Linux', nodename='b0e45c20d4ca', release='4.4.0-169-generic', version='#198-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 12 10:38:00 UTC 2019', machine='x86_64') Current Working Directory: /tmp/sessions/7ae3772408a46b98 List of files and directories in the current directory: ['main.py'] Test if a specified file exis or not: Not accessed or problem in reading: abc.txt
For more Practice: Solve these Related Problems:
- Write a Python program that retrieves the current operating system name, version, and current working directory, then lists all files and directories in that path.
- Write a Python function to print the OS information along with a sorted list of files in the current directory, handling exceptions for invalid paths.
- Write a Python script that outputs the operating system details and iterates over the current directory, printing file sizes and raising an error for any inaccessible file.
- Write a Python program that checks if the current directory exists, prints its absolute path, and displays its contents with a custom error message for any invalid file names.
